There are so many different types of situations or experiences that can create a need for therapy. You could be stressed and are having difficulty at work, you might realize that you have been feeling more “down” than usual, perhaps you are struggling with a difficult adjustment at home, maybe your child is acting out and you aren't sure how to deal with it, a breakup, a move, or you might want to improve your marriage and your friendships. Therapy gives you the tools you need to process trauma, learn how to manage stress, build skills to form closer relationships with family and friends, and manage your feelings. Therapy is usually a longer term, deeper process. It can involve looking at the past in order to repair the present and move into the future. This is one difference between therapy and coaching. Coaching is working in the present and creating an action plan to help you reach your goals.
I have experience successfully helping people feel less depressed or anxious, build their parenting skills with strong willed children, get through difficult life changes, improve their relationship with their partner or friends, and create a less stressful environment for themselves. I work individually with adults and with couples. I also work with the whole family. I am trained in several research-based treatments for trauma, anxiety, depression, and parenting.
Trained Treatment Approaches
I have been trained and have a certificate for continuing education units in each of these treatment approaches.
Gottman Couples Therapy Level 1
Gottman Couples Therapy is a research-based approach to creating stronger relationships. This approach can give couples new insight into their struggles using research-based assessments and effective interventions.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a research-based treatment that has been designated as an effective treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and other associated symptoms. It can also be used for treating anxiety, grief, eating disorders, and performance enhancement.
The three Ps in ‘Triple P’ stands for ‘Positive Parenting Program’. Triple P helps you understand how your family works so you can use the things you already think, feel, say and do in new ways.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
PCIT is a research-based treatment consisting of two components: Parent-child relationship enhancement and Behavior management
